Use Cyber Monday As a Tool For Specific, Targeted Purposes
--
I fucking hate consumerism.
And, since Americans seem to REALLY enjoy buying so much crap that we devote entire holidays to that pursuit, I suppose that puts me in an awkward position to write about Cyber Monday. Or does it?
On the one hand, my wife and I have consciously scaled back what we own over time. Now, we try to only keep those things we need a few items we’d like. Luxuries, in other words.
On the other hand: the shit we need and the shit we like breaks over time. Deciding what can and should be replaced is now an interesting experience. Let me give you an example:
About three months ago, the microphones in each of my AirPods Pro both broke after about two years of hard usage. I didn’t want to replace them, so… I just stopped using them. Instead, I switched to using the speakerphone setting and — when that wasn’t possible — I turned to my trusty, old, white, wired earphones. Remember those?
I know. #OldSkool
I used those long, stringy white wires for months because I wanted to see if I could make do without Apple’s luxury item inside each of my ears. Well, the results are in. And, after getting my hands, silverware, and child repeatedly tangled up in those cables, I’m now in the market to replace my broken earbuds.
I may detest holidays devoted to shopping but, like most people, I am VERY OK to save a bunch of money on something that I truly want or need. And, earlier this week, Amazon took $50 off of Apple’s newest (Gen 2) AirPods Pro (affiliate link to grab that deal is here).
As a result, I made that purchase.
So while I rarely write about spending money or specials on tech hardware and software, I think we can all agree on this:
If you truly need to replace a piece of technology, then right now’s a pretty great time to do it if you’d like to save some money.
With that in mind, here’s a short list of the products that I currently, own, use, and love that are all being offered at discounts — some of them quite substantial — right now.
